Enrique Mijares

Enrique Mijares es dramaturgo, narrador, ensayista, investigador y promotor del teatro mexicano. Originario de Durango, ha desarrollado una extensa trayectoria dedicada a la escritura dramática y al estudio y difusión del teatro, con especial atención a la dramaturgia del norte de México y a las formas contemporáneas de creación escénica.

Autor de más de un centenar de obras teatrales, su dramaturgia se caracteriza por la experimentación formal y por una búsqueda constante de nuevas posibilidades para la palabra y la representación escénicas. Paralelamente a su creación literaria, Mijares ha realizado una importante labor de investigación, documentación y promoción de la dramaturgia mexicana.

Su obra ha recibido numerosos reconocimientos nacionales e internacionales. Entre ellos se encuentran el Premio Nacional de Dramaturgia Emilio Carballido por El árbol de la esperanza; el Premio Teatral Internacional Tirso de Molina por Enfermos de esperanza; y el Premio Nacional de Literatura José Fuentes Mares por Espinazo del diablo. En 2020 recibió el Premio Nacional de Dramaturgia Juan Ruiz de Alarcón, uno de los principales reconocimientos de la dramaturgia mexicana, en homenaje a su trayectoria y a su contribución al teatro nacional.

En Postrimerías, Mijares lleva esa exploración de la memoria, el cuerpo y la condición humana a un territorio profundamente íntimo, transformando la experiencia de la enfermedad y la cercanía de la muerte en materia teatral.

Enrique Mijares is a playwright, fiction writer, essayist, researcher, and advocate for Mexican theater. Born in Durango, he has devoted an extensive career to dramatic writing and to the study and promotion of theater, with particular attention to the dramaturgy of northern Mexico and contemporary forms of theatrical creation.

The author of more than one hundred plays, Mijares explores memory, identity, the border, violence, the body, illness, and the tensions inherent in the human experience. His dramaturgy is distinguished by formal experimentation and a continual search for new possibilities in theatrical language and representation. Alongside his literary work, Mijares has made significant contributions to the research, documentation, and promotion of Mexican dramaturgy.

His work has received numerous national and international honors, including the Emilio Carballido National Playwriting Award for El árbol de la esperanza; the Tirso de Molina International Theater Award for Enfermos de esperanza; and the José Fuentes Mares National Prize for Literature for Espinazo del diablo. In 2020, he received the Juan Ruiz de Alarcón National Playwriting Award, one of Mexico’s foremost honors in the field of dramaturgy, in recognition of his career and contributions to Mexican theater.
